FOX 5: San Diego Youth Wellbeing Report

The Policy & Innovation Center’s Dr. Alicia L. Jurek, Ph.D. joined San Diego Foundation‘s Dr. Dean Gerdeman on FOX 5 San Diego (KSWB-TV) to revisit the Youth Well-being Report, the most comprehensive look yet at nearly a million young people in San Diego County over 18 years.

The education wins: graduation rate has increased over the past two decades (reaching 95% in 2023), and there are more students entering and succeeding in college in the County. There are also more opportunities to explore a variety of career pathways and more immediate interventions and support for when students are getting off track.

The challenges: mental and physical health, economic stability and access to opportunity are all gaps that our youth face and need attention from the community.

As a new school year begins, explore what the data means for your neighborhood.
