Genie Wungsukit

Administrative Assistant, Behavioral Health Workforce & Retention

Genie Wungsukit is the Administrative Assistant at the Policy & Innovation Center.

In her role, Genie will support the ELEVATE Behavioral Health Workforce Fund, a $75 million investment from the County of San Diego to grow and strengthen the region’s behavioral health workforce. She provides day-to-day support for a portfolio of PIC’s work for its $75 million behavioral health workforce initiative through operational, program, and administrative coordination.

Previously, Genie was a Senior Operations Specialist at REI, where she streamlined financial and operational processes, strengthened employee engagement, and advanced equity initiatives. She was recognized with the Anderson Award, a peer-nominated honor celebrating employees who embody REI’s values of service, adventure, and leadership.

She also has extensive nonprofit experience, having served as an Adaptive Camp Counselor with the Outdoors for All Foundation, creating inclusive recreation opportunities for more than 2,500 adults and children with disabilities. In addition, Genie worked with Outdoor Outreach, leading climbing, hiking, and water-based programs that empowered youth from historically underrepresented communities to build leadership skills and confidence in outdoor spaces.

Earlier in her career, Genie worked as a Research and Administrative Assistant with UC San Diego Health’s Golomb Research Group, where she assisted in managing clinical trial data, coordinated participant documentation, and supported research initiatives.

Genie holds a bachelor’s in Cognitive and Behavioral Neuroscience from the University of California, San Diego. She is dedicated to advancing representation for women and BIPOC communities in the outdoor recreation industry and is passionate about leveraging outdoor recreation as a tool to support behavioral health. Outside of work, she enjoys mountain climbing, hiking, and giving back to her community.
