San Diego Latino Grads Are Soaring, but Paychecks Still Lag

As seen in Hoodline: The Policy & Innovation Center’s Youth Well-Being in San Diego report highlights significant gains in educational outcomes for Hispanic and Latino youth, including an increase in high school graduation rates from 68% in 2005 to 91% in 2023 and college enrollment from 42% to 57%.
The article also examines the gap between educational achievement and economic opportunity. While more young people are earning diplomas and pursuing higher education, the report finds that economic challenges continue to affect young adults across the region, underscoring the need for stronger career pathways, apprenticeships, and opportunities that translate educational success into family-sustaining wages.
